"MY SONG AND THE WAY I SING IT" CELEBRATES TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY AT

HISTORICAL VENUE

In a limited engagement, "My Song, The Way I Sing It" by virtuoso playwright Karyn Rose Bruyning will be celebrating its two year anniversary at the historical Theater 80 on St. Marks. A legendary stamp of the East Village community, Theater 80 was home to the jazz mecca known as The Jazz Gallery and the hit musical "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," which put the theatre on the map. This May 14th, the theater will be able to add Bruyning's work to their list of successful productions.

"My Song, The Way I Sing It" depicts the journey of women through six different points of view. In an ensemble that includes everything from second wave feminists to wild childs and mean girls, the play not only touches on subjects of relationships, growth and maturity; but, also the influences that are behind coming into womanhood. The production features a mixture of poetry, music, and multimedia.

With a simple, stripped down set, "My Song..." is a visceral experience as the women characters grasp for clarity and reach understanding. Part memoir, part collected experiences, Bruyning interviewed a number of women to compose a melody of deeply personal truths that are almost hauntingly similar in that the lessons we learn from our mothers never change and the outcomes which those lessons produce- more often than not - mirror the mistakes they were intended to deter. However, Bruyning's characters pump the brakes on the destructive cycle and growing pains with wit, intelligence, and brutal honesty, offering an experience for audience members that is nothing short of transcendence.

"My Song, The Way I Sing It" will be opening at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place) on Saturday, May14th, 2011 with a matinée at 1:00pm and an evening show at 8:00pm. Ticket prices start at $20 general admission and $10 for students with a valid student I.D. Seating is limited.

If anyone knows me they know how much I love my friends, all my friends are talented and they all inspire me in some way. Coming back from my blogging hiatus I have a treat for you guys. As I'm sure most you guys can agree the Kanye West "All of the lights" video was borderline depressing. To have such a great album I would have figured the videos would meet the level of creativity Kanye displayed on the album. Of course I learned assuming does nothing for me (thanks Kanye). Well one day after a amazing Wordspit performance in Long Island my friend David decided he wants to rap "All of the lights" and my buddy Potential decided to film it. As I shorten up this story a little bit. It went from one day of random recording of singing Kanye music to a few days of making a actual video. I can say I love this video more than Kanye's. Much love to everybody in the video.. you guys just proved that my statement "My Friends Are Cooler Than Yours" is true.. ENJOY EVERYONE!!!!

My lovely friend Liz aka @Emaphotography has been doing interviews on some of her fav artist managers lately and of course I had to repost this one. Not just because David is my friend but because I actually see for myself how great, how passionate and how serious he is at what he does. After reading this interview I immediately felt that a lot of my friends and readers should read this. I hope everyone who reads this takes something from it and apply it what they do.

David is best known for being the manager of WordSpit but after reading this interview you will learn a lot more about him. Hopefully when I do my interview with him you will learn even more. Last month, I did a multi-part series entitled “Indie Manager Spotlight” in which I interviewed several people on the indie scene who are doing some awesome work and were willing to share some insight on their experiences. Well, to start this new year off, I give to you the last of this series, featuring David Hamilton, who manages Brooklyn MC WordSpit and was part of the US management team for Estelle. Enjoy!

What made you decide to get into artist management, and why did you choose the artist(s) you work with?

I’ve always been a bit of a “manager”, LOL . My whole life actually…just ask my mom. After returning from Iraq, and moving to New York from Delaware, I began pursuing a career in music entertainment. I worked a few retail jobs, internships at Sony Music Studios & with John Legend in October of the same year while attending school at the same time. I became an official employee of John Legend’s HomeSchool Records in Sept of 07 as well as the exc. assistant to Estelle’s US management. Estelle is very hands-on in her vision and I have and will always applaud her ability to fight for what she believes in. In the summer of 2008 I went to work with the Obama for America campaign. Over that summer, although only an occasional associate at the time, WordSpit began sending me music for feedback. After the election, he and I began discussing working together and it led to the idea of management. An Underground Music Award, a national McDonald’s campaign, performances across the country, a band, thousands of album downloads and 2 years later… I’m a manager. .

What are the pros & cons of managing an independent artist?

Pros: Keyword- independent! We were able to try some unconventional things and only had to answer to ourselves. I also think as an independent artist you are a bit of an underdog. People like to cheer for the underdog. They get just as or even more excited when you get small wins. There is a rush that come along with “winning” in spite of a low budget, or network connection, or a major co-sign.

Cons: NO MONEY!! LOL! In order to do anything in this world, you need a little something to make moves. Flights, buses, band, clothes, CDs, food, etc… ACCESS. Being independent means you have to figure out where the doors are, which ones aren’t traps, who has the keys, and who’s willing to let you in whether it be an event, a club, or an office. But with will and talent, we all can turn pennies into dollars and with tact & skill…kick in any door we want. I have!

What, in your opinion, does it take to be a great manager?

Being crazy. Completely and utterly insane. No, in my opinion, the greatest skill to have is the ability to COMMUNICATE. You have to know how to talk, when to talk, who should talk to, and what to talk about. Everyone isn’t your homie but you can’t be an inaccessible dick either.

PLAN. If you don’t know where you intend to go or how YOU plan to get there…then what are you doing? You have to set goals and realistic means to achieve them. Always reassess your plan to make sure you are on track or if you need to adjust your shot group.

COMMON SENSE. Please bring it to the table. Be willing to try new things and take daring approaches, but use logic to assess the risk and returns.

Can you share some memorable experiences from your journeys with your artist(s)?

For Estelle, it was great being able to celebrate her first Grammy. To know I helped play my part as a team member is something I will never forget. (Catch me in her “American Boy” video…they saw me and were like “That’s a win!” LOL) My two years with WordSpit have some of the greatest memories and growth in my life. From house parties, to road trips, to near fist-to-cuff fights. I will never forget the day I told this guy he was going to be in a national commercial. “Is this shit real!?” And the day he won his UMA… “East New Yooooork!” Thought that guy was going to cry on stage, LOL! Now go get that Grammy, guy.

If there was one thing you could change about your experience as a manager, what would it be?

Hmmmmm….I wish I had more money and time because there have been so many blossoming artist that I would love to have helped. Other than that, I count every win and loss as experience. By the way….I have an iPad.

Quantum Ark Interview

I first got familiar with Quantum Ark clothing around the time I was putting together my first event "The AMC Convention" after following Lucky on twitter for a while & minor discussions here and there he showed me how mature he is and that he is truly focused on what he is doing. I honestly love people who don't mind not being everywhere because they rather be behind the scenes and get the work done. Here is a interview I did with him. Hopefully you will see what I see in him.

1. First and Foremost introduce yourself and what Quantum Ark is to the readers.

Whats up ya'll? My name is Lucky, & Quantum Ark is my clothing line...

2. Quantum Arks logo is a lightbulb with a very smirk expression on his face. Why did you choose that?

Well when I was drawing up logos for the QA, I was trying to think of a good idea, & I was actually watching a cartoon show & he thought of something & a lightbulb popped on top of his head...so as I was watching that, I took that idea, and gave it a face. Basically turned it into a character...so it symbolizes a good idea.

3. I see that Quantum Ark has even designed for recording artists and other lines, can you tell everyone who they were and how did the opportunity come about?

Well at the end of the day, Im an artist, I been drawing since 10, so many people will need things drawn, or certain things designed & will help them out. (He didn't mention it but he designed some tee's for Salt and Pepa to perform in last year)

4. Is there anyone who exists right now that you would love to see Quantum Ark clothing on?

Yea of course, Kanye West,Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Pharrell & many more but these are my top 5 you can say.

5. Well, I'm Jade and I usually know just about everything (lol) one thing I do know is that you (Lucky) also do music. Can you tell the readers what exactly it is that you do and the background behind that happening?

Yeah I produce music & I can actually rap. I was making beats for artist, Kyah Baby actually who's actually signed to Dj Self's record label, I worked with her many times...but since I started designing its kind of in the background...but I have songs I havent put them out yet, but I still work on it.

6. You are still young, if I'm not mistaken you are still under 21. At what age did you decide to get into fashion and why?

It was pretty recent, im 19 now, Quantum Ark came about around the time I was 17 years old...& what really made me get into it was, I was always a fashion head, I love to shop, & wear what I actually like to wear, not caring what most people may think about it..because fashion is actually what you make it, there isnt a definition for it, well atleast in my eyes..

7. You are about release a season of all female clothing for Quantum Ark clothing soon, any hints on what's coming?

Umm...no..I just want everyone to see..lol (JERK LOL)

8. How do you feel about the other brands coming up? If you have any advice to give them what would you tell them?

I havent been paying attention to any other brands, I dont want to be distracted by any of that, I just do me, & if its meant to bump heads with another brand than yeah ofcourse, i'll give my ideas on things..

9. Where do you see Quantum Ark Clothing in 3 years? ( saying 5 years would have been to typical.. Had to switch it up lol)

Main stream...hopefully overseas on a runway..I believe my female collection will take it there....I have plenty good ideas for females

Laure Luxe: More Than Metal

I am honored to say I got to interview one of the coolest and most creative brands in the fashion industry right now. Laure Luxe won me over a year ago with her stylist earrings and ever since then she has been able to top her designs one by one. I was also lucky enough to go to her fashion show last fashion week (thanks to Ms.LadyBlogga for the hookup lol) and I was in awe the whole time. of course I will say right now my fav pieces are the 2 men pieces which are a bowtie and a regular tie (of course they really arent your typical ties) I really hope you guys enjoy this interview as much as I enjoyed doing it. 1. When everyday, 9-5 working people hear fashion the last thing they are thinking is wearable metal pieces. What inspired you to go such a different route with fashion?

I studied traditional apparel design at Pratt Institute. I really had a love for accessories. So instead of switching my major I decided to make wearable metal accessories.

2. The LaureLuxe brand is apart of the "Go Green Gang", when I say that I mean you're being Eco-Friendly and designing with recycled aluminum. What made you decide to help save the world one earring at a time?One of my classes on college was "Wearable Art". One of the assignments was to make a garment that costs nothing. So my dad sent me scraps of metal from his lighting company. I fell in love with rawness and shapes of the reusable material and built from there.

3. I remember when LaureLuxe had earrings, bracelets and a few body pieces. It has grown to be such a huge success right in front of a lot of people eyes. Outside of talent and your creativity what else has contributed to your success?

I believe my product speaks for itself (anyone who has a product should stand by it wholeheartedly). I always showcase it in a professional way, whether its through social networking or a fashion show. Also, the support of my team and my fashionistas plays a huge part!

4. You went to school for fashion and take it very seriously, how do you feel about the up and coming brands who decided to do fashion with no knowledge really of it besides how to screen print? Is there any advice you would like to give them?

GO TO SCHOOL! You learn the different aspects of fashion basically so you can have the knowledge to tell other people what to do!(lol) This is also where you can really find where your niche is in fashion. Also get work experience and intern. You learn what to do, and what NOT to do in this industry.

5. The Laure Luxe pieces are created and inspired by Brooklyn and the urban art scene. Name me your top 3 favorite pieces and why.

Well, my earrings are named after Brooklyn Streets. So I will go with my Top Earrings. My favorite is the Brooklyn Super Swag Earrings because they are the chains that connect ear to ear so you have an earring and necklace in one. Next, is the South Portland Earring of cascading metal "hooks". These are awesome because they almost look like weapons--- Edgy and bad-ass. Next would be my Taaffe earrings because they were the first LaureLuxe Earrings I made--- where it all started.

6. Who was the first celebrity to wear one of your pieces? How did you feel seeing them wear it?

My first celebrity was Mila Jovovich in Harpers Bazaar. To have such a beautiful dope actress wear it and in such an amazing iconic fashion magazine was a crazy humbling experience. I felt so honored to have made it that far so fast.

7. You are a New York native and said earlier this is your source of inspiration. I could imagine how your pieces would look if you were inspired by the world. Have you considered traveling for more inspiration?

Of course. But I need to take over New York first. (lol)

8. Twitter has made it a lot easier from developing brands to promote and get our attention. Are there any brands that have crossed your timeline that has caught your eye? Why?

Not really. I try to not pay attention to other peoples brands. I like to stay in my own world as to not lose focus.

9. The LaureLuxe brand is more than fashion but others are not aware. Please tell everyone else what the Laurel Luxe brand does at PNC Radio.

I am the host of my radio show "The Luxe Hour" Fridays from noon-1. The show covers different topics on fashion, beauty, and art. I have a different guest every week that I interview to give the listeners and insiders view on the industry. Its pretty dope :)

I have the honor to say I attended his last mixtape release party for The Groundwork Vol.2 and own the mixtape and from that point he has gotten my respect. G Swagg will be releasing a new project soon and this is just a TASTE of whats coming. Randomly bumping into him at events and having convos I learned that he is real cool focused guy with a calm demeanor about him which he actually displays in the video. The Model: Viva La Pinky

I have heard about Miss Viva La Pinky for a while now and seen her name all over my timeline lol. It was clear she has a lot of fans/supporters that believe in her. I first seen her work in RSNY Mag where they did a post on her and I was impressed. I have seen the "look over the shoulder and show your ass" pose for a while now so it was very refreshing to see some actual modeling of clothing, products and just a photo with a story. I really do hope you guys get to see the woman behind the photos, behind the flyers of all the events she host and behind the infamous hairstyle she is also easily recognized for.

1. Your name is Francelesia Millen but everyone knows you as Pinky or VivaLaPinky from Twitter. Can you teach everyone how to pronounce your name and tell them a little about yourself?
My name is pronounced FRAN-CE-LES-LE-AHH ! I'm a personality model. I'm not just a typical model . I have a face , a name , a ego and an alter ego. Most of my work is based in Japan but I am a local celebrity in the states ! haha

2. When a lot of people think modeling now they see body figures with numbers like 34-22-2,739 (LOL). How do you feel about what people consider modeling now?
Modeling has come a long way. When models were paper thin it was in but that was quite some time ago. Naturally of course we want the skinny model as opposed to the more full figured model but I think the modeling world is more accepting of body meat. I've seen some booty on most of these high fashion models! lol

3. Acting is a major part of modeling, especially when it comes to photoshoots with a storyline. What would be your dream photoshoot? Is there any type of character you would like to portray as you model the accessories or clothing?
my dream photoshoot would be me transformed into an animal ! id prefer to be a leopard or tiger shot in various parts of the world. there are so many ideas running through my head about that shoot that i cant put it down right now. but yea .. that's the main idea.

4. From the shoots I have seen you in, you seem to connect with a lot of Japanese clothing. Have you ever considered going to Japan and modeling out there?
My ultimate goal is to live in Japan and have them use me as their muse. everything about their culture and their art makes me fall in love with them more and more everyday. I'm currently working on a project that may just be my ticket !my fingers are crossed

5. None of us simple folks know what goes on behind the curtains of a runway show. How do you feel as everyone is prepping you to walk in front of so many people? How do you mentally prepare yourself for a show?

its always complete chaos behind the curtains of a fashionshow. after doing so many shows Ive learned the key to keeping yourself sane is engaging yourself in your own thoughts. it doesn't have to be adventurous thoughts or extremely eventful daydreams. just normal everyday thoughts. usually I'm thinking about the food I'm going to eat after i walk that runway ! i get lost in memories of this insane party i went to the other night or something crazy my bestfriend did at a high class event we were at ! Just always keep something on my mind that makes me laugh.

6. When it comes to fashion sometimes all it takes is one small moment to inspire us to want to be apart of that whole industry. What was your moment that inspired you to model?
That one moment that inspired me to model was when I looked in the mirror one day and finally admitted to myself that i was art ... my features were art ...and not ugly. Like I had been called for so many of my younger years. I decided I wanted to share this art with the world while" playing dress up " in front of a cameraman who wouldn't judge me and placed in print for the world to ooo and aahhh over.

7. Outside of a face, slim and tall figure what do you think is most needed to become a successful model
Want to be a successful model? Model from within, become what you model. Love the skin you are in and show that to the world. People will feel you, they will grasp the message you are trying to get across.

8. Models are stereotyped to be unintelligent, materialistic, egotistical females. When people meet you what are their first reactions?
Give me the top 3 words from people who have met you would say you are.

When people first see me their initial reaction is to stare then when they finally meet me and get a piece of who I am they always say " omg I didn't know you were this cool I always thought u were stuck up ! you are so down to earth!" three words humble , fun , intelligent.

9. A lot of the already established models are begun to branch out in other feilds such as media, acting and even starting non-profit organizations to help others. As time pass is there anything else you consider doing?
I'm going into fashion marketing and management. I'll be dealing with international affairs in relation to fashion. I've already started on my side projects, not waiting until I blow! They are kept under wraps for now though just stay involved with me.
10. Still being so young and knowing there is still so much you can do, what are some of the goals you set before you turn 25?
Before I turn 25 i will have lived the life of 79 year old woman .

11. A lot of people now pursuing careers have a lot more support from their friends than family these days. Can you say the same? How do your friends and family support you with your career choices.
My parents support whats right. They want me to go about my career in a more stabilized , professional and beneficial way. Can you blame them for not always agreeing with a lot of choices ? I sure can't. my friends are there a lot more because I'm always with them. we have a common ground that we share and that's why the impression is given off that they support me more than my parents. I honestly feel as if its all support, just on different levels and derived from different elements. Either way the support is appreciated and I love everyone who stands behind me.

Interview With Nikera Clothing

I have been really digging the up and coming clothing lines coming out and wanted to make sure this blog touches all basis with everything that is up and coming. So today I am posting a interview I did with Florida's own clothing line Nikera Clothing. Much love to their graphic designer Jessica

1. Nikera clothing fuses music and fashion together. Using artists as the models for the shoots, What made you decide to use musicians?

We decided to use Musicians becasue we needed a really cool way to stand out from all of the other clothing brands out today. It's not enough to come up with dope photo shoot concepts, we needed something heavier than that. We chose to rock with Indie Musicians specifically beacause they are overlooked in the industry. Indie music is what keeps the music industry's heart beating. These Artists often times have a bigger following than signed musicians. Nikera Clothing decided to tap into that particular market that everyone was ignoring, and we found a way to help Artists receive more exposure and also better market our brand.

2. What would you say seperates your designs from other designers?

This season we are working with L.A. Graphic Designer and Photographer, Jessica Latumeten. We are changing the design concepts of the tees in 2011 buy using real life photography as our graphics instead of computer generated images. Most of the women and men you will see in Spring 2011 Look Book are friends, fans, and associates of Jessica and Nikera Clothing.

3. Can you describe the ideal customer who would be your clothing? Who are the type of people you make clothing for?

Street Trendsetters, Musicians, young and rebellious socialites, edgy models, popular college kids.

4. I'm aware that in the south a lot of the older people loved sewing their own clothing, were you raised in that enviornment? What made you decide to get into fashion?

I wasnt raised around sematresses, only extremely stylish individuals. My parents were very fashionable. I grew up watching my parents spend tons of money on clothing and accessories just to ensure that they would stand out in a crowd. I was a very shy child, so I chose to draw and sketch fashion rather than wear it. As I got older, I was frustrated with what I could not find in stores and boutiques. I would have a specific look I wanted but came up short when I tried to find it in retail stores, so I chose to release my own clothing.

5. Every artist has a muse, some sort of inspiration that brings their work to life. What do you use as inspiration for your pieces?

Color. I like putting different color patterns together. Colors that would normally be kept separate. I get alot of inspiration from vintage eras like the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 80s.

6. New York being known as the capital of fashion and because there are so many opportunities here, do you think it's harder to kick off your career in a different state? Why or Why not?

I dont think it's harder. Everyone wants it at low cost and little or no sacrafice. If you love it and you are determined, you can make it anywhere. I dont think that any state or region is "easier" than the next. Fashion is worldwide. We all need it. One particular city and demographic may require more research and marketing, but overall it is in the hands of the designer. How far are they willing to go to succeed?

8. A lot of clothing lines now have gotten very abstract with their pieces, almost couture like. How do you feel about couture clothing and eyewear becoming wearable on a everyday basis?

I am a huge couture fan; however, it is best kept on the runways, special projects, videos, movies, plays, etc. Some Designers are born for couture, and we need both sides in the industry to survive. Couture has always been kept in a special place within the industry, it has always been very exclusive. I am not sure how I feel about seeing couture on the streets nowadays.

9. Men's clothing seems to be a little bit more difficult to design because of the limits men have to what they wear. Have you ever come to a crossroad felt the same? How do you work around that?

HA! Yes, all of the time. It's not a factor of design, it is the the limitations on creativity. A designer is very limited with men's clothing. Mens clothing is very cut and dry with pants, shirts, jackets, and shoes. There are color limitations as well. The chances of an everyday American male rocking a lime green suit and tie are very small; however, if you add that same color concept to a party dress, you can possibly land a contract with Macy's. Women clothing is just simply less of a headache with unlimited creative freedom for some designers including myself.

I got to know Tony Polo after he started creating the "We Got Bars" movement and I respected it and it's whole purpose. After a while of following him on twitter and discussions I came to learn that he is in a group called B.A.M. with the homie Colv Reese. B.A.M.'s vibes are a little different and incorporates some jazz into their beats which I think is pretty dope. I was lucky enough to hear a few tracks from them already before the project comes out and I can say i'm pretty excited for them. Anywho this is the trailer video for the project. Who Is Kraff Swagger?

Recently I decided to show love to all those who deserve it and recognize the talent outside of music performers. Today I decided to recognize DJ Kraff Swagger. I first heard of Kraff exactly around this time last year through my friend WordSpit and actually got to know him personally as time passed. Having to always bump into Kraff as he dj'd many events I began to notice how hard he works and how much people just love him as a human being. I just always wanted to hear their story on success an hard work so who brain to pick better than my own friend? lol :-p. I hope with this interview you learn something more about Kraff and get a little bit more inside a DJ's mind. P.S. I will be adding my own smart remarks in red... it's all love though lol.

Allowing the readers to know a little bit more about you, please
state how old you are, name, and where did you grow up.
* Age: Unknown :-p (oh brother lol)
* My name Dj Kraff Swagger (better known as just Kraff) (clearly people he's new to interviews and stating his government name lol)
* I was born an raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

1. So yes I do have to start off this interview with the most obvious
question of them all.. What inspired you to start dj'ing?

* Well, I've always been interested in learning how to dj. Music has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember but I didn't know anyone that dj'ed that was willing to teach me. I ended up meeting Dj Dreadnaught and he taught me how to mix songs together. That started it all.

2. As a Dj you don't get as much recognition right off back as a
performing artist does. As the Dj behind the artists, How do you make
sure you stand out during performances?

* When I dj behind an artist, I like to shine simply by having a seamless show. If I'm doing a mix in the middle of the show, I want the audience to be like "Wow, that was smooth!". If I'm scratching on a song, I want everything to sound clean and on point. I just make sure that everything that I do is perfect. With my past experiences, I've realized that people take notice.

3. You are apart of the Scratch Academy family. A lot of people may not know what you do there or what Scratch Academy is exactly. Can you explain it please?

* Sure! Well Scratch Academy is a school started by Jam Master Jay where people learn to dj. A lot of people don't think it really exists lol. I'm a teacher's assistant there. Basically, what I do is help the students learn the basic techniques necessary to become a good dj.

4. With our generation there doesn't seem to be much support, teaching and believing in others going around. Everyone feels like everybody is their competition. How do you view other Djs? Do you see yourself as a person willing to teach others that want the same career as you?

* I view other djs as teachers...even the bad ones lol. When I go to an event, I ALWAYS listen to the dj. If the dj is dope, I wouldn't hate, it just inspires me to do better. They actually make me want to go home and practice lol. Now if a dj is wack, I'm not going to front, I'd hate a little bit and think "Damn I should be spinning right now". But at the same time, they might play a song that I wouldn't play normally or do something dope (even if its by mistake), and I'd still be inspired by it.

5. Have you hosted any mixtapes for anyone? If not do you plan on
hosting in the future? Any artists you would like to work with?

* I haven't hosted any mixtapes yet. I did mix 6th Sense's "It's A 6th Sense Beat Yo Vol.1" though. I'll be doing a lot of work with a few artists on the rise within the upcoming months though so stay tuned for that. I have some surprises coming up!

6. I believe the music a dj's has in their laptop defines the type of
Dj he/she is and determines the events they get booked for. If I
stole your laptop for the day and skimmed through your music what do you think my assumption of you would be?

* Lol if you went through my laptop, I think you'd be surprised to see what music I have. I have A LOT of music and I like a lot of different genres too. I think you say that I'd be prepared for a lot of different situations. I'm pretty sure you'd see a bunch on songs u haven't heard in a while too.

7. Has Kraff ever thought about being something else besides a Dj? Do
you plan on going into other fields?

* Actually yes. Its funny because I started creating music by rapping. Hard to believe huh? Lol as I said before, music has always been an important part of my life. Naturally, I'd want to start creating my own. I starting writing rhymes with my boy Swiph. Not to toot my own horn, but I got pretty good at it (toot toot -_- ). Later on, I kinda grew out of that and started making beats. That's where my passion is...I realized that I'm more drawn in to the music than I am the lyrics. I've been making beats since 2003 and I love it. So to make a long story short, my other dream is to be a producer. You'll be hearing some of my work really soon by the way.

8. One topic I always debate about with my fellow musicians is dating.
How do view dating in the industry that you are in?

* Hmmm, dating, especially in this industry can be really messy for two reasons: Being that its an entertainment based industry, a lot of your personal business would be out in the open. So arguments, fights, & breakups would be publicized for the world to scrutinize. The second reason is that everyone in this industry is connected in some way, shape, or form and people talk. Rumors spread and that could potentially cause problems in a relationship. On the same token, I wouldn't say not to pursue a relationship because you never know where you may find love. Just know that its not going to be easy.

9. For anyone who does not know where they can hear you or catch you at a event can you give them the information to the next few gigs you have and what radio station you are on?

* As of right now, I have a few events coming up but they are all private. If you'd like to hear me spin, check me on www.pncradio.fm Monday-Thursday from 8-10pm. * Practice. If you don't practice, you won't get anywhere. A lot of the techniques in djing are simple. The hard part is sticking with them and mastering them. Practice has much as you can .

So BEYOND THE BASEMENT has another event coming and this one along with the other's I have done truly represent what B.T.B. is all about. My main goal with B.T.B. is to bring everyone together, artists, fans, blogs, mags, models, designers and etc and all work towards success in a friendly way. Some of you may think i'm bugging out and i'm being unrealistic but at the end of the day attacking and pulling down one person is easier than attacking a army. I named this showcase All Or Nothing simply because if you are going to say you are a supporter of music it should mean ALL of it. Whether if it's that hardcore 80's-90's hip-hop, jazz, country, r&b, rock or whatever you should be a full supporter or don't claim to be one at all. If i'm going to showcase music i'm going to showcase all of it. Of course I couldn't find no country singers or jazz players but I did collaborate with Barrel House BKLYN on this and combined some of the artists we respect to perform for you all.

I would like to state that B.T.B. is personally against creating shows only to put my friends on or to solely benefit myself. I am open and willing to showcase ANYONE who's heart is strongly in this and has the talent plus the vision to match their drive. I completely understand how hard it is for a artist to get booked for anything when they are not in some type of team or clique that does events. No one wants to perform at open mics their whole life. What artists are aiming for is respect and recognition and to be booked for a show with a audience who came with a open mind. I can say luckily with the last 2 events I put together all my artists left with new fans, supporters and even a few future collabs under their belt. This is exactly what I aim to bring you all, not just a showcase but a place to leave saying you gained more than what you came in their venue with. Beyond The Basement was a idea I had to basically work with everything underground. I personally believe when working together you tend to get a lot more done and reach success a lot faster rather than try to take each other down to reach the top. Beyond The Basement is a brand being built around music, art and anything I personally appreciate. My first event I did was a collab with my good friend from Kidz R' Evil with performances, live artwork, and a few clothing lines representing themselves. It was such a huge success I decided to take doing events seriously. When you truly love something you should put your all into it and that's what BTB ended up being...what I love. A brand is basically a reflection of who you are and I try my best to let who I am show 24/7 no matter what anyone says or who is watching me. Anywho BTB is organized and ran by just little ol' me ^_^ but I am very open to combining ideas and working with others. I do have a showcase coming up Novemeber 2nd at Bowery Poetry Club with some amazing artists, I have a few listening parties lined up and another showcase all before this year ends. Well, I dont want this to be a huge bio because BTB just started and there is going to be soooo much more to this story before 2011 is here. Thank You to everyone who supported me since day one and never asked any questions but just rode out with me. Special thanks to all the artists who believe in me sometimes more than I believe in myself and I never had to ask twice to be apart of any crazy ideas I have. I have to start this off by saying I'm proud of my friends, all of them. I haven't been in this whole "scene" thing for long but I have noticed growth in myself and everyone I have crossed paths with. I'm also blessed to say 98% of the people I have worked with or just met at a show or through others have become people I can call friends. This post is about my guys called RSNY which stands for Rockstar Society N.Y. (duh on the NY part) lol. I 1st heard of these guys at my homie WordSpit's "Rise Of The Illest" video release party then I officially met them when they performed at my 1st event ever in life "The A.M.C. Convention" and they came like 80 deep and killed it. From that point on we all continuously crossed paths and I actually got to learn more about them and all that they do. So far since I known them they have dropped about 3 mixtapes this year and all of which I have ^_^. Anyway I was watching their latest webisode from their show "Welcome to The Society" (on youtube) and this one really made me smile something serious. I'm so proud of these guys and the people they surround themselves with who clearly leading them in the right direction. So I'm going to share my friends with you guys and let you get a glimpse of what I'm so proud of. Also the 2nd video is a episode basically about the making of one of my fav mixtapes this year from my homie Yung Juggz. Special shoutout to Styler who films and edits the episodes. Livewire Album Release Party

I met Livewire at one of the lovely Cocoa Sarai's performances and even though I was very aware of him as a artist this was my first time seeing him perform. Dude just came out so energetic and ready to kill it (hence the name Livewire). Well Livewire will be having his album release party tomorrow and it's going to be amazing. Again... I'm up early in the a.m. staring at the computer screen just browsing and I found this song from Nina Sky. I have to say I love their new style and where they are going with it. I love when artists pass the introduction stage to their career being signed and finally get to show us who they are. The song is definitely something I would play on my own freewill and recommend to others. The video is o.k. but hey what can ya do with a skimpy budget but make it work? At 1st (Idk which one is which) but the one signing looks so stiff and confused but it gets better once they take the camera out the studio and film them outside. I don't wanna give it all away so look at it yourself!

1st and foremost I would like to say I wanted to blog about this song before I even had a blogspot lol. I got this song sent to me maybe 2 months ago and at 1st it wasn't my fav but as I played it over and over I started enjoying it. My mind is never closed to different types of music so I didn't mind hearing something I wouldn't normally put on my ipod. Honestly when your running around the underground scene and attending different shows you might end up getting stuck with the mind frame of what hip-hop or what rap in general is suppose to sound like. This song is by this rap group called B.A.M. and although I personally think the lyrical content could be stronger I still enjoy the song for what it is. Just to mention B.A.M. will be performing at my music showcase on Nov. 2nd so if you like this song you should def come through. (flier will be up soon). Enjoy!! Who's That Chick?

Ok so it's about 1:16a.m. and I'm bored out my mind.. what does any other loser do? Yup, check out World Star Hip Hop lol. I been hearing about this Rihanna video for like a day and even though I don't like her as much as I used to I can't deny I enjoy her style. Anywho this is the video for her "Who's That Chick" track off her new album. Between this song and the "Only Girl In The World" track I see she's going for a lighter happier vibe. Kind of reminds me of her 16/17 year old "S.O.S." singing days. Of course she just wasn't going to drop her demonic looking ways so quickly lol. This video has a split screen showing the child like colorful party vibes and than you have her "post chris brown" side of the video all dark and creepy (even when she smiling). Finally!!! More Than T-Shirts!!!!

1st and foremost I just want to laugh at the title of this post lol. If anyone knows me, they know how tired I am of these graphic designers printing out t-shirts and calling themselves a fashion designer. Now if you want to say I'm taking shots than so be it but as someone who truly loves fashion I find it to be offensive. Using t-shirts to be the start-up of your line is cool but these t-shirt designers need to take a seat and let this phase die down. ANYWAY.. some of my rapper buddies put me on to RockSmith Tokyo and as usual I ignored it like I do everything else. One day my lazy butt decided to stop being stubborn and check out their things and this is what I found.

Yes it is true ladies and dudes I found more than t-shirts, and honestly I got extra excited to actually see some pieces I wouldn't mind seeing my guys in. So thank you RST for brightening up my day... you are the illest!

I love sneakers, especially high top ones, but no I am not some sneaker collector or anything. I go to some of these blogs and see a lot of high priced clothing that neither the reader nor the writer of the blog can afford. I live in a realistic world where no fronting is allowed and we rather get what we want instead of fantasizing over it. In these times being 100% original is almost impossible because all of our ideas are being inspired from somewhere else. Heyday Footwear does remind me a little of Supras or anything high top but I do love what they did to the sneakers and made it their own. Everyone is either creating or wearing accessories these days and right now its a lot of Good Wood or buttons from their favorite artists. I first heard of RichP around last year summer when he dropped his mixtape " The Inauguration" and I was happy I downloaded it and took a listen. Besides the fact that he's actually a cool dude and I'm cool with some of his people too, I actually support him. I haven't been able to see him perform live yet but I heard he kills it!! I went to The Soundcheck Anniversary Show where this young teen was performing at and from moment he started rapping I was shocked. Honestly when he got on that stage I was waiting for another cute kid to have me say "awww" funny part is I ended up saying "wow" instead. This young man's energy was great and the crowd responded very well to him. In this video he's doing a remix to Kanye West's "Power" track, so far this kid has my respect on being a artist. Late last week I received a email from Hit Club Entertainment giving me a invite to check out one of their artists. I'm truly blessed to say all emails regarding music have been good ones and this one is one of them. This gentleman's name is Joonie and he has that voice and talent I been yearning for lately. Recently something called AssMan caught my attention, of course I brushed it off and continued collecting my buttons lol. After a while of seeing a large amount of my followers tweeting about this my curiosity got the best of me and I went to check out the blog. Come to find out this whole AssMan obsession was created by 2 young men (that are younger than my youngest sister lol) 15 year old Jovany Perez and 19 year old Rembrandt Duran.

WHAT IS ASSMAN?

AssMan is one of the many characters drawn by Mr. Duran when he was younger. It is also the mascot for his pink panties and plush pins.

Adeen which is the whole brand behind this is very inspiring. The Blog/Magazine has some artwork to let you know creativity, fun and freedom of expression still exists. I don't know these two young men personally but I can say I'm proud of anyone going after their dreams, doing what needs to be done and enjoying life at the same time.
